Velida Palmer

VELIDA PALMER - TAG MEMBER SINCE 1989 active member thru-2007. During that time she served as President of TAG 2 terms. She rejoined in 2017 making her a TAG member for 21+ combined yearsVelida travels extensively to collect images for her paintings and her subjects are as diverse as her destinations. She has portrayed market scenes of the Caribbean and Mexico, thatched cottages in Ireland, domed rooftops on the Greek Isles, areas of the Loire Valley in France, the imposing Rocky Mountains and delightful surprises found along Historic Route 66.
In addition to her landscapes, Velida paints animals, florals and still-lifes, using objects both familiar to most and one of a kind collectibles. Having taught and conducted workshops in oil, watercolor, acrylic and pen-and-ink, she enjoys demonstrating her methods of painting at meetings of various groups and her works are in numerous corporate and private collections. Velida has also donated her time and efforts to support local charitable organizations by providing several paintings. In addition, she has been requested to paint bowls, boxes, chairs, posters and other objects for fund raising events. She was one of the first to be selected to paint a penguin by the Tulsa Zoo. In 2000, Velida was invited by the Department of the Interior, National Parks Division, to participate in the Gathering of Artists in Wyoming. This was a group of twenty artists from across the United States assembled at the historic Grant-Kohrs Ranch to paint scenes depicting ranch life. In 2001, she was again invited by the Department of the Interior, National Parks Division, to participate in the Gathering of Artists in Wyoming. In 2003, she was selected by the U.S. National Park Service as the first Artist in Residence for the Grand Canyon National Park. As such, she set the standard for future selections of resident artists and contributed to the collection of artwork found in the Conservancy. AWARDS:
